Div Com reviews relief, rehabilitation of DPs

JAMMU, May 13: To review the status of relief and rehabilitation of DPs of 1947, 1965, 1971 and West Pakistani Refugees, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pradeep Gupta chaired a meeting of officers of various departments here today.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Jammu, A. K. Sahu, Deputy Commissioner Samba, R. K. Verma, Additional Commissioner Jammu, Robin Singh Mehta, AC Central, S. H. Keen, ACR Jammu, Sher Singh, ACR, Kathua, Suraj P Rakwal, Provisional Rehabilitation Officer, Jammu, A. M. Wani and concerned officers of various departments.
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner had a detailed review of action taken on various decisions taken in the previous meeting besides discussing the matters pertaining to West Pakistani Refugees.
The grievances and demands projected by the West Pakistani Refugees included permanent resident right for West Pakistan Refugees in the state, right to contest State elections, right to purchase property in J&K, eligibility for recruitment to state service, issuance of domicile certificates to west Pakistani Refugee, right to education in technical/professional institutes, extension of benefits under Indira Awas Yojana  and other centrally sponsored schemes and those available to BPL families, credit facilities by banks to West Pakistani Refugees without collateral security and special financial package for rehabilitation.
It was informed in the meeting Rs.25.20 crore were disbursed among 2444 families under claims for cash assistance in lieu of land allotment besides Rs.4.23 crore have also been disbursed among 1873 families under relief package for displaced persons from PoK 1947. Besides, a proposal to pay cash assistance in lieu of land deficiency of the DPs of 1965 under consideration of State Government. It was further revealed that 677 Chammb displaced families 1971 (Camp) have been paid cash assistance for irrigated land depending on the location. Under payment of cash relief to left over 272 non-camp DP families of 1971, 1230 families have been provided ex-gratia relief at the rate of Rs.25,000 per family.
The Divisional Commissioner asked the concerned to disburse the remaining money to the left out families at the earliest besides disposing off the pending cases will by July end this year.
