Div Com reviews Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls

KATHUA, Oct 22: Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pardeep Gupta, who has been appointed as Electoral Roll Observer for the districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Poonch and Rajouri, today visited Samba and  Kathua districts to check the progress under Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls with reference to Ist January 2013 as the qualifying date.
At Samba, DDC, Mubarak Singh, informed the meeting that till date for the Assembly Constituencies of Samba, Vijaypur and Hiranagar (partially) there are 268 polling stations and as many BLOs and claims and objections received are 3688 as per form No.6, 2360 as perform No.7, 637 as per form No.8 and nil for form No.8-A. Besides, total number of electors in these constituencies is 204021 voters.
At Kathua, DDC, Zahida Khan, apprised the Divisional Commissioner that for the Assembly Constituencies of Bani, Basholi, kathua, Billawar and Hiranagar there are 598 polling stations  and as many BLOs have been appointed as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India. The claims and objections received till date (20th oct.2012) as per form No 6 are 9122 form No.7 are 4050, form No.8 are 2200 and form No 8-A are 268. There are total 391560 voters including 206040 male and 185520 females as on Oct 20, 2012 in these Assembly constituencies.
During the meeting, the Divisional commissioner interacted with the representatives of the political parties and appealed them to appoint Booth Level Agents at all the polling stations so as to facilitate the revision of electoral rolls.
He also took feedback from them and directed the authorities to redress their grievances as per the provision laid down by the Election Commission of India.
The Divisional Commissioner asked the voters to  file their claims and objections by 31st of October,2012 and said that as per the schedule disposal of claims would be done from Ist of November up to Ist December 2012.
Divisional Commissioner informed the representatives of the political parties that from Ist of December 2012 to 31st December 2012; updating of the database, merging of photographs, updating the control tables, preparation and printing of supplementary list would be done and final publication of electoral rolls would be done on 5th January, 2013.
He said that current rolls can be accessed on the  website www.ceojammukasmir.nic.in of Chief Electoral Officer, J&K and the hard copies are available for perusal with BLOs as well as Electoral Registration Officer (Assistant Commissioner, Revenue) and Assistant Electoral Registration officers (Tehsildar territorial)
He further informed the political representatives that in case of any exigency handwritten scripts as per format prescribed by the Election Commission of India for filing claims and objections are also acceptable.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Samba B. S. Jamwal, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kathua, Puneet Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Samba B.L Sharma, tehsildars and other officials were also present in the meeting.
