DLL organizes ‘NGO management, development’ training programme

JAMMU, Oct 15: The Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu organized a five-day training programme for the NGO functionaries of Jammu region here today.
The training programme is being attended by over 20 functionaries of various Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and community/grass root level workers of Jammu region besides women and youth groups.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Dr Poonam Dhawan, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, Dr Kavita Suri, Assistant Director, DLL, Dr Bharti Prabhakar, Project Officer, DLL, Abdul Rashid Choudhary, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Department of Rural Development, J&K Government, Gurjeet Singh, Jammu, Assistant Project Officer, DRDA, Jammu, Pallavi Sachdeva and Dr Sandeep Singh, both project officers, DLL.
Welcoming the participants, Dr Kavita Suri, Assistant Director, DLL who is also the coordinator of programme informed that the DLL has been closely working with community leaders, NGOs etc for its various field outreach and extension activities.
Prof Poonam Dhawan said that under its extension activities, DLL is working very closely with the NGOs, adding that the NGOs are a link between the people’s needs and Government’s initiatives.
Dr Bharti Prabhakar, co-coordinator of the training programme who took a session on “Introduction and scope of NGOs” said the rational behind the programme is to strengthen the process of planning development schemes, while Rashid Choudhary, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Department of Rural Development, J&K Government gave detail of schemes.
The participants learnt a lot about the DRDA schemes available for them.
Gurjeet Singh, APO, DRDA also gave lot of information and said that the NGOs and Government have to work together to reach out to the weaker sections of the society, while Dr Sarika Manhas, Department of Home Science, University of Jammu took one session on the first day.
The topics to be covered in the five-day training programme include NGO Skills: A Checklist; Starting an NGO: Logistics; NGO Management: Strategic Planning; Project Development: Design and Management; Financial Management: Grant-Writing and Budgeting; Building Networks: Community and Government Relations; and NGO Public Relations: Media and Advocacy.
