Srinagar, Apr 19: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) today held a legal awareness program on solid waste management at Anantnag Town Hall in South Kashmir.
The program was organized as part of the JK SLSA’s plan of action and activity programs, and Mir Wajahat, Secretary of District Legal Services Authority Anantnag, briefed the audience, which included students nominated by the Chief Education Officer Anantnag, Municipal Committee officials, and faculty members of the schools nominated as Solid Waste Management awareness program participants.
“The discussion and deliberation touched on various aspects of solid waste management, such as what solid waste is, why solid waste must be disposed of, modern techniques for disposing of solid waste, and other effective measures that could be taken individually to reduce solid waste production,” he said.
He said that the speech also highlighted that each person generates one tonne of solid waste per year and that, if current trends continue, solid waste production will more than double by 2030. As a result, there is a need to take preventive measures at this stage before the world is overrun by the tide of solid waste.
At the end of the program, mementos were given to the distinguished guests, and the deliberations concluded with the administration being challenged to raise awareness about solid waste management.
Ifshama Mukhtar, a lecturer from Government Higher Secondary School Furrah Anantnag and an environmental science specialist, spoke on solid waste management and urged the audience to take small steps in disposing of domestic waste in pits and turning them into productive manure.
On the occasion, Hilal Ahmad Shah, Chairman of the Municipal Council, also spoke, highlighting the accomplishments and making a firm commitment to establishing all solid waste management measures on scientific lines in Anantnag.
