JAMMU, Apr 30: The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Samba under the guidance of Adnan Sayeed, Chairman DLSA and Principal District & Sessions Judge, today held a sensitization program for the police officers and legal aid counsels.
The event focused on the effective implementation of the NALSA (Compensation for Women Victims/Survivors of Sexual Assault and Other Crimes) Scheme, 2018, and the J&K Victim Compensation Scheme of 2019.
During the program, Adnan Sayeed emphasized the crucial role of rehabilitation for victims of sexual assault and urged the district’s Senior Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) to ensure timely sharing of FIR copies with the DLSA to facilitate swift compensation for victims.
He highlighted the necessity of police support in the initial stages of victim compensation claims.
Vinay Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba, addressed the evolution of the criminal justice system from focusing on penology to emphasizing victimology.
He reassured the attendees of the district’s commitment to faithfully executing these compensation schemes.
The event also featured Rahul Singh Sambyal, Advocate at the District Court Complex in Samba, as the resource person who detailed the provisions of both schemes.
Rekha Kapoor Nischal delivered the vote of thanks, and Dr Surinder Choudhary, Additional SP, Samba, provided the welcome address.
The session was moderated by Tania Pargal, Advocate at the DLSA Samba.
The program included interactive sessions aimed at resolving participants’ queries and was reported to be highly beneficial by the attending SDPOs, SHOs, In-charge police post officers, probationary sub-inspectors, legal aid counsels, DLSA staff, and paralegal volunteers.
