DM Sgr appoints SPO to investigate offences of immoral trafficking

SRINAGAR, Apr 4: Taking serious note of busting of a prostitution racket at Bagh-e-Mehtab locality the other day, the District Magistrate, Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, has ordered appointment of a Special Police Officer (SPO) to deal with and investigate the cases of immoral trafficking in the District.
As per an order, the SSP Srinagar had earlier requested for appointment of a SPO not below the rank of an Inspector of Police for dealing with the offences under Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
Accordingly, the order said, the DM Srinagar appointed Inspector Gulshan Akhtar of District Police Line Srinagar as the SPO under section 13(2) of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act 1956 for dealing with offences within the territorial jurisdiction of Srinagar District.
“The officer is now empowered under the Act to investigate and carry criminal proceedings in all such matters,” read the order.
