UDHAMPUR, Feb 29: In a proactive approach to preserve and protect environment and in response to directives from the Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee, District Magistrate Udhampur Saloni Rai has ordered the closure of three brick kilns-Vinod Brick Kiln, Shiv Shanti, and Shavilik Brick Kiln.
The action has been taken under Section 33(A) of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and Section 31(A) of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. The District Magistrate emphasized the immediate shutdown of the specified Brick Kilns and mandated the submission of a compliance report to her office.
A coordinated effort involving officials from Revenue, Police, and the Pollution Control Board, led by Tehsildar Udhampur, Jai Singh, successfully enforced the closure of the identified establishments.
