SAMBA, Nov 30: The mining mafia has attacked the District Mining Officer, Samba late last night.
According to the information District Mining Officer, Shiv Kumar Sharma was passing through Devak bridge of Vijaypur during patrolling late last night when suddenly he noticed a tractor illegally loading sand near the bridge. As soon as he moved forward to seize the tractor, another tractor ahead was also engaged in illegal mining of sand. Both the tractor drivers together started pelting stones on the officer’s car, due to which the glass of the car was broken and the car was also damaged. The mining officer had a narrow escape. Later he informed the police about the incident. The police reached the spot, and rescued the officer. By then the people associated with illegal mining had fled from the spot. District Mining Officer, Shiv Kumar Sharma said that police has been informed about this. They have taken cognisance of the matter. He also said that we have identified some people and hope that soon they will be in police custody. He said they were involved in illegal mining and sale of sand.
They were mining the sand near cremation ground within 50 meters from the Devak bridge. He said that the district administration, police and the concerned Department are committed to take tough action against the mining mafia in the district.
