DMO imposes Rs 7 lakh penalty on excavators for illegal mining

KATHUA, Mar 11: District Mineral Officer (DMO) Kathua, Rajinder Singh imposed a penalty of Rs seven lakh on excavators involved in illegal mining today.
The first excavator was seized from Falanpur areas of Hiranager tehsil where big mound of soil was dug and sold to people through tractor trolleys without seeking any permission from Mining Department.
Similarly other heavy excavator was seized from Ujh river downstream at Pandori where a stone crusher was excavating river bed material beyond the lease out areas without getting any e-challans.
The action at locations was initiated on the complaints of some local people. The DMO informed that there are clear directions from DC Kathua to curb the practices of illegal mining in the district.
Earlier, DMO along with SSP Kathua, Shivdeep Singh and SHO visited at different locations in Ravi river and inspected some mining routes. SSP asked the DMO to identify all illegal routes and start joint operations with police on daily basis.
