Do not forget COVID “warriors”

There were slew of measures of incentives announced for those medical personnel like resident physicians, medical officers, para-medical and nursing staff, drivers and class IV employees etc who actually attended to and served the COVID patients and admittedly, while most of them have got their such incentives paid, yet there are many associated with the premier medical institute in Srinagar known as Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) who until the moment, have not been paid these incentives though their services during the most crucial and trying moments of the first and the second waves of the dreaded pandemic have been duly acknowledged. Not that the Government has shown any sort of frugality in releasing the requisite funds but denying incentives to duly identified and pointedly known warriors only apportions blame on the Government while the fact of the matter is that the SKIMS is reported to have received Rs. 146 lakh as special financial incentives for the COVID warriors from the Government. It must be, however, ascertained whether such funds have been used for or transferred to some other revenue expenditure head in which case it will be construed and must be treated like that, to having been misused the funds.
In this connection, in order to speedily pay the incentive amount to the eligible warriors, who was entitled to get how much like time consuming formalities were pre-empted by the government order by specifically mentioning the amount payable against each category of COVID warriors. Unfortunately, unnecessary procedural humps are either getting created or are being created which should be immediately resolved and incentives paid to the deserving personnel. Needles to add, if a few ”more” warriors got the incentives than no one at all, it should be thought over and a decision to release the money taken forthwith.
