Do not send wrong signals which could communalise situation: Speaker

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly speaker Mubarak Gul today urged members from all political parties not to send any wrong signal which could disturb communal harmony in the state.
I will not allow any member to give any statement which will divide people, he said after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and National Panthers Party (NPP) members wanted to raise the issue of Rajouri violence.
He said members from all political parties have the responsibility to help maintain communal harmony in the state.
“The minister has made a statement in the House on the issue yesterday, do not raise it again and again,” speaker said and directed BJP and NPP members to resume their seats to allow Question-Hour since it was the last day of the session.
I have made it clear to all the members that I will not allow to raise any issue which will increase tension, Mr Gul said.
A BJP member Ashok Khajuria, who was allowed to speak by Mr Gul before Question-Hour, alleged that police was committing atrocities against members of one community. He wanted a fresh statement from the government.
A PDP member Zulfikar Ali said some political parties are trying to give Rajouri incident a communal colour. He said anybody involved in the incident, irrespective of which community he belongs, should be punished as per law of the land.
Why BJP and NPP members wanted that police should not take any action in this case, he wanted to know.
A ruling NC member Ajaz Ahmad Jan said he congratulates people of Poonch and Rajouri who took a joint procession after body of a boy was found yesterday.
Hidus, Muslims and Sikhs joined the protests against the incident sending a clear signal that they will not fall into the trap of parties having vested interest.
