SRINAGAR, Apr 23: Wife of a doctor from Government Medical College Baramulla who tested positive early this week was among 26 persons who tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir today taking number of COVID-19 positive in the Valley to 377 and Jammu and Kashmir tally has gone upto 434.

Among the fresh cases, 18 tested positive at Viral Diagnostic Lab of SKIMS. They include nine from Shopian, four from Kupwara, two each from Baramulla and Bandipora besides one from Budgam. The eight tested positive for COVID at Government Medical College Srinagar testing laboratory.
Nodal Officer at GMC Srinagar Dr Mohammad Saleem Khan said that eight people tested positive for coronavirus at GMC laboratory today. Seven are from Anantnag district and one from Baramulla who is admitted in Srinagar’s Chest Diseases hospital.
Dr Salim said that 235 samples were processed in the GMC lab and eight tested positive. He said 100 more samples are under process and 300 fresh samples were received at the laboratory.
The seven cases from Nowgam Shangus in Anantnag district include 52-year-old woman and six men aged 56, 22, 60, 50, 50 and 45 years.
The eight cases were from Heerpora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, taking the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the village to 42.
They include 42-year-old man and his 18-year-old son; 50-year-old woman and her 30-year-old son, 48-year-old man and his 15-year-old son besides 65-year-old man and 16-year-old boy.
The ninth positive case from Shopian is from Beminipora village and he is a 30-year-old man. All of them are contacts of COVID-19 positive case.
Four of Kupwara district positive cases include 37-year-old handicapped woman, a 17-year-old boy, 24-year-old man and his 32-year-old brother. All of them are residents of Muqam-e-Shahwali. One of the brothers, is working as a constable in CRPF and had returned home on leave from Chhattisgarh in the third week of last month. All of them are contacts of previous patients.
Baramulla reported three positive cases today. Two of them were confirmed at SKIMS including 45-year-old man from Uri and 40-year-old woman, wife of a doctor from GMC who tested positive recently. The other case was confirmed at CD hospital, a 60-year-old woman from Baramulla.
Bandipora reported two more positive cases today. They include 45-year-old man from Naidkhai and 27-year-old man from Gund Kaiser.
A 55-year-old man from Beerwah area of Central Kashmir district also tested positive today.
With these cases, Bandipora now has 99 COVID-19 patients, highest in all districts, followed by Srinagar 79, Shopian 55, Baramulla 50, Kupwara 41, Ganderbal 14, Budgam 14, Anantnag 15, Kulgam 6 and Pulwama 3.
The overall tally has gone up to 434, there are 337 active cases-39 in Jammu and 298 in Kashmir. Five persons have died so far while 92 others have recovered.
And the lockdown across Kashmir continued for the 36th day today with authorities acting tough against the violators of government orders issued to prevent spread of coronavirus.
Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads and they had erected concertina wire to block the roads to prevent movement of people and vehicles.
And acting tough against the violators of Government prohibitory orders, Police arrested 16 persons and seized three vehicles in Srinagar today.
In the jurisdiction of Police Station Nowgam, Police arrested 13 persons and also seized 3 vehicles for defying the Government orders.
Cases (vide FIR numbers 47/2020, 48/2020, 49/2020, 50/2020, 51/2020, 52/2020, 53/2020, 54/2020 and 55/2020) under relevant Sections of law have been registered in Police Station Nowgam and further investigation into the cases have been initiated.
In the jurisdiction of Police Station Panthachowk, Police booked 3 persons for violating the lockdown orders.
Police have seized 49 vehicles; and challaned 4 vehicles in Ganderbal for violating the COVID-19 prohibatory orders.
Police have requested people to stay inside and cooperate with law enforcing agencies for implementation of effective lockdown and said movement of vehicles without valid passes will not be allowed.
