Doctor among 11 test +ve for Corona in Kashmir, tally goes to 324

SRINAGAR, Apr 21: A doctor was among 11 people who tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus in Kashmir taking the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the Valley to 324 and J&K to 380.
A 41-year doctor posted at Government Medical College Baramulla tested positive for COVID-19 four days after he developed symptoms.
He attended general patients and authorities are now trying to trace all his contacts including the patients he has seen at the health facility.
Four doctors and 15 staffers apart from entire family including his in-laws have been traced and quarantined. The hospital and administration is looking for other contacts of the doctor.
He is the first doctor in the Valley to have tested positive for the Coronavirus.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla G N Itoo said that doctor had developed fever four days ago and was at home, in Kanispora area of the district.
Samples of the doctor and 10 residents of Shopian tested positive for the corona at SKIMS laboratory today.

Of the 10 from Shopian, 8 are from Heerpora and two others – a 32-year-old man and 50-year-old woman are from Beminipora areas of the district.
Those from Heerpora include two men, one 50-year-old and another 18-year-old while six are women including mother-daughter duo aged 45 and 20 while others are aged 25, 30, 60 and 65.
There are 380 positive cases in the J&K till date, of which 294 are active -256 in Kashmir and 38 in Jammu divisions. 81 people have recovered while five people have died.
He said 60000 people have been enlisted for surveillance out of which nearly 35000 have completed the mandatory 28 days quarantine.
Dr G H Yatoo, Nodal Officer for COVID-19 at SKIMS said that 11 persons tested positive at SKIMS today. He said none among the patients was discharged from the hospital today.
Dr Salim Khan, Nodal Officer for COVID-19 at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar said that 230 samples were tested at GMC Srinagar laboratory today 143 more samples were received. Among them, reports of 46 samples are under process.
Dr Tabassum, Deputy Medical Superintendent at JLNM hospital said that no new patient was admitted to the hospital and all 25 patients who are undergoing treatment at the hospital are recovering.
So far, 556 samples have been taken at GMC Anantnag and among them reports of over 100 samples are awaited. Samples of 49 more persons were taken today. He said that so far, 675 samples have been taken at DH Pulwama. So far, reports of 439 were received while nine among them were tested positive and reports of 236 are yet to come.
And the lockdown across Kashmir continued for the 34th day today with authorities acting tough against the violators of Government orders issued to prevent spread of coronavirus.
Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads and they had erected concertina wire to block the roads to prevent movement of people and vehicles.
Acting tough against the violators of Government prohibitory orders, Awantipora Police have seized 36 vehicles for defying the restriction orders.
In the jurisdiction of Police Station Awantipora, police seized 12 vehicles for violating the Govt prohibitory orders issued by the District Magistrate u/s 144 CrPC. In the jurisdiction of PS Pampore, police have seized 4 vehicles for the violation of the Govt prohibitory orders.
In the jurisdictions of PS Tral and PS Khrew, police have seized six vehicles and 14 vehicles respectively for violating the Govt prohibitory orders. Awantipora Police have requested the general public to follow the restrictions imposed by Government in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

180 stranded people reach Valley
Around 180 people who included students and Shia pilgrims today reached here in Indian Air Forces’ Globe master Aircraft.
They were stranded in various parts of the country after the lockdown was announced.
Meanwhile, the first batch comprising 1200 people were also brought back from Punjab yesterday.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has started airlifting of dozens of students and pilgrims from several parts of the country who were stranded there for weeks due to the lockdown.
