JAMMU, Sept 20: Police today arrested Aastha Nursing Home, Ambphalla owner Dr Raj Sharma for alleged abortion of a mentally deranged girl, who happened to be an inmate of Rotary Inner Wheel Home for Mentally Retarded Children, Channi Rama.
Police said Dr (Mrs) Sharma has been booked under Sections 315 RPC (abortion) and 201 RPC (destruction of evidence) at Trikuta Nagar police station.
Police said it was being ascertained as to which doctor had conducted the abortion of mentally challenged girl in 1997. There were four Gynecologists working with Aastha Nursing Home at that time and any one of them could have conducted the abortion.
Dr Sharma was being questioned to ascertain identity of the Gynecologist, who had conducted the abortion, police said.
They added that Girdhari Lal Koul, 72, Principal of the Home had accompanied the girl to Aastha Nursing Home for abortion. All this was done with the consent of the management of Rotary Inner Wheel Home including Rajinder Kapoor, 75, Secretary of the Home.
Both Koul and Kapoor have already been arrested.
Police said a total of five mentally deranged girls had been repeatedly raped in Rotary Inner Wheel Home.
The girl, whose abortion was conducted in 1996 was 17 years old at that time, police said.
Further investigations in the case were in progress, police added.
