Srinagar, Mar 23: Police today arrested a doctor on charges of sexual assault on a patient in District Hospital Bandipora in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
A woman patient, 42, was allegedly molested by a doctor of the hospital on Friday evening. Soon after the victim filed a complaint police arrested the accused, Dr Muneeb Ahmed Bhat.
In her complaint the patient has alleged that Dr Bhat of District Hospital Bandipora sexually assaulted her during a physical examination in his room.
“Police along with the Health Department officials are investigating the matter,” Chief Medical Officer Dr Bashir Ahmed Malik said.
Husband of the patient said her wife complained of abdominal pain on Friday night and was rushed to district hospital at night. “Doctor examined the patient and told me to get medicines for her. As I returned back I heard cries of my wife,” his husband said. “Doctor had switched off the lights and tried to sexually assault the patient”, he alleged.
However, Police said doctor denied allegations and said that he was doing a routine checkup.
