UDHAMPUR, Nov 18: The Deputy Commissioner Udhampur today ordered suspension of a doctor and a probe into death of an infant in womb of the mother due to alleged negligence of doctors and para-medical staff on duty at the District Hospital Udhampur.
The inquiry was ordered following a strong protest by the family members and villagers of the victim, who blocked the road demanding stern action against the erring doctors and the para-medical staff.
One doctor, namely Shashi, has been placed under suspension till pending inquiry, which will be conducted by the Chief Medical Officer Udhampur, informed DC Udhampur Yasha Mudgal.
The Director Health, Jammu, Dr B S Pathania has also ordered a separate inquiry into the case. The three-member inquiry committee, comprising CMO Udhampur Dr Arun Sharma, Deputy Director Health, Dr V P Verma and a Gynecologis will submit its report in two days and strict action would be taken if any negligence on part of the doctors or para-medical staff is found, Dr Pathania told the Excelsior.
According to reports, one Reeta Devi, wife of Surinder Singh of Madha was admitted in the District Hospital on Sunday evening after she experienced delivery pains. Her condition was stable and the infant was also reported as fine by the doctors during the time of admission. However, in the wee hours of Monday, doctors declared the infant in womb as dead.
Alleging that the infant had died due to negligence of doctors and the para-medical staff on duty, family members and villagers of Surinder Singh held a strong protest demonstration and blocked the road disrupting vehicular movement for a few hours.
Taking cognizance of the allegation, the DC Udhampur and Director Health Jammu ordered separate inquiries into the case.
