JAMMU, July 1: Doctor’s Day was celebrated in Government Hospital Sarwal with zeal and enthusiasm.
All the doctors of the Hospital gathered in the office of Medical Superintendent and recalled the services of Dr Bidhan Chandan Roy, who left an indelible mark in the history of medical profession in India.
Later they together cut cake and had sweets and snacks. They pledged to serve the humanity rising above their profession.
Throwing light on the importance of the Day, Medical Superintendent, Dr Arun Sharma said, “The day has been chosen as a mark of respect to the contributions made by Dr Bidhan chandra Roy, whose both birth and death anniversaries falls on this day. The day also marks the date that Crawford W Long, MD of Jefferson, GA, administered the first ether anesthetic for surgery on March 30, 1842.”
“Doctor’s day celebrations do not signify celebrations of revelry or social extravaganzas. It is celebrated in a very solemn and quiet manner. The day can be as a mark of respect for all those doctors who have relentlessly made efforts to sustain the life of their patients against all odds,” he added.
