SRINAGAR, Dec 3: Doctors of various hospitals today protested against repeated arrests of doctors by police for the alleged medical negligence.
A silent protest was held at Partap Park by the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) this afternoon. The protesting doctors alleged highhandedness of police and some politicians.
“We sometimes fear to touch the patient for treatment due to the fear of being thrashed by mob or arrested by police,” said Nisar-ul-Hassan, President DAK.
The protesting doctors said that the arrest of two doctors from district hospital Kulgam on November 27 without any proper proof or enquiry against them is the violence against doctors.
“These arrests are clear violations of set guidelines of supreme court of India, which clearly states that no doctor should be arrested on the basis of mere allegations,” Dr. Mir Mushtaq, spokesperson of DAK said.
DAK also demanded for bringing an ordinance in the state to curb the violence in the health institutions and life threatening attacks on doctors and their supportive staff. They also demanded that if any complaint is registered against any doctor it should be probed by professionals of the department first before the doctor is punished.
The DAK said it is not the doctors but the lack of health facilities and proper infrastructure that mostly leads to death of patients.
