SRINAGAR, Feb 10: Even as the police are yet arrest the former Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmad Khan, for alleged attempt to molest a lady doctor in his office, doctors in the Kashmir today threatened to take to the streets if he is not arrested within 24 hours.
Addressing a press conference here, various doctors, including JK Dental Surgeons Society, Health and Family Employees Confederation, Society of Consultant Doctors, Field Doctors Welfare Association Kashmir, NRHM and Doctors Association, said some elements were trying to save Shabir Khan by issuing “baseless” statement to divert the real issue.
Khan who has allegedly molested a woman doctor at Civil Secretariat here has been evading arrest after he was booked by police under Section 354 and Section 509 of RPC.
Hailing the woman doctor for coming forward and lodging the complaint against the former Health Minister, they said people would not have known about this shameful incident if the victim had not come forward and lodged the complaint.
The doctors also demanded installation of CCTV at the Civil Secretariat so that such incidents could not be happen in future.
President Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan said that powerful and mighty in Kashmir have a license to commit crime.
“They dare to do it in Kashmir because they know that they will get away. Shabir Khan is a glaring example of power crime who after molesting a female medico is roaming free. Police have failed to arrest him because power houses are protecting him. This is irony that the accused is roaming scot free despite an arrest warrant against him,” Dr Hassan said.
