Sir,
This is with reference to the strike by junior doctors of Govt. Medical College and SMGS Hospital Jammu. I think such doctors as have undergone training in Govt. medical college and those serving in Govt. hospitals should bear in mind that they have been trained at public expenses and the salaries they are getting is also out of public exchequer and it is to save the fellow human beings that they have entered this noble profession rather than restoring to strikes and agitations on one pretext or the other.
Mostly it is the poor who are at the receiving end and suffer most during such strikes as they can’t afford private consultations and treatment at private hospitals/nursing homes .Why should any attendant misbehave with a well-behaved doctor who cares for his patient and does whatever he can to provide relief to the patient ? Doctors should better know the psychology of the patients and their attendants and keeping in view their stress , apprehensions and uncertainties of the outcome of the treatment, deal with them with love and sympathy instead of being rude and inconsiderate , as some of them happen to be.
Doctors need to be tolerant, considerate and understanding and win faith and respect of their patients and attendants .Along with medicines they also need to be imparted training in handling such situations patiently and intelligently and thus improving their attitude and behavior towards their patients and attendants . This may help in checking the recurrence of such unbecoming incidents.
Yours etc….
