Doctors’ strike enters 7th day in Reasi

RDA, DAJ to suspend OPD, OT, Emergency

JAMMU, Oct 26: The doctors’ strike continued in District Hospital, Reasi on the 7th consecutive day today, in protest against the illegal detention of a senior doctor in Police Station Reasi on the directions of Deputy Commission, Prasanna Ramaswamy while Jammu Doctors Association (JDA) and Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of Govt Medical College Jammu and Associated Hospitals today resolved to suspend Emergency Services, besides work in OPDs and Operation Theatres in hospitals from tomorrow.
The spokespersons of both these Associations said that in view of the indifferent attitude of the State Administration under Governor SP Malik, the doctors have been forced to take this harsh step. While the DAJ has decided in a meeting today to suspend Emergency services for two hours ( 10 am to 12 noon) for the next two days the RDA including Post Graduate doctors and Registrars have resolved to suspend OPD, OT and Emergency services from tomorrow onwards. DAJ and RDA has appealed all the units in various districts to observe complete strike for providing justice to the aggrieved colleague who has been humiliated and victimized. The spokesman said that this fight is against the VIP culture and for the dignity and honour of the people in Medical profession. He said the incident at Reasi has brought down the morale of the whole community and brought in agnuish and fear among those working in peripheral hospitals.
Meanwhile, due to ongoing strike the work in OPD, Operation Theatre, Wards and Labs in Reasi Hospital remained suspended, while the Emergency unit of the Hospital was allowed to function. The striking doctors said that they had given ultimatum to the District Administration to tender apology from the aggrieved Dr Ashwani Kumar Bhagat (Consultant Ortho) but they have not bothered. They said their indefinite strike will continue till the action is taken against the DC Reasi.
In Jammu and various other places the doctors suspended OPD and OT work for some time in the morning hours to mark their protest against the act of DC and demanded action against him.
