Doda migrants hold protest

JAMMU, Apr 19: Erstwhile Doda migrants led by Rakesh Kumar Sharma and Som Nath, chairman and general secretary of Erstwhile Doda Migrant Committee, respectively, today held a protest in support of their demands, here at Mubarak Mandi.
The protesters raised slogans against the Government for its negligent attitude towards the Doda migrants, who have been facing hardships for the last eight years.
Addressing the protesters, Rakesh Kumar said that we are all migrants like Kashmiri migrants then why the Government is hesitating to consider us at par with them (Kashmiri migrants).
“We have been left homeless while the Kashmiri migrants have been given quarters in Jagti Township. This is total injustice”, he said and demanded that they be provided quarters on the lines of Jagti Township for Kashmiri migrants.
Som Nath said that the verification of about 251 families of Doda migrants had been conducted as per the norms of Relief Organisation since long back and their files completed in all respects are lying with the Relief Organisation, but till now even a single file has not been cleared for the reasons best known to the concerned department.
He also demanded to treat Doda migrants at par with the Kashmiri migrants and accordingly pay relief to them, as they are also the State subjects of J&K and citizens of India.
He also stressed for providing free education to the children of Doda migrants and fixation of reservation quota in State Government jobs.
Among others who spoke include Swami Raj, Kansi Ram, Mohd Aaba, Lassa Zargar and Paras Ram.
