JAMMU, Dec 25: Doordarshan Approved Drama Artists’ Association (DADAA) as well as several prominent Dogras of Jammu today staged a demonstration demanding ‘Duggar Satellite Channel’.
The demonstration was organized this morning near entry gate of Maharaja Hari Singh Park, here. Several prominent artists from Jammu including office bearers of DADAA viz. JS Babli (president), Madan Rangilla (vice-president) as well as prominent film director and producer Jayesh Gupta participated in the protest. Holding placards in their hands, they raised slogans in support of their demand.
Speaking to media persons, Jayesh Gupta said “Duggar Satellite Channel” is a long pending demand of the people of Jammu division but Government never thought about it seriously. He said any language which comes in the 8th schedule of Constitution of India has been given the satellite channel. Like Kashmiri language, Dogri also comes in the 8th schedule but there is no satellite channel for Dogri while as Kashmiri satellite channel “Kashir” exists since long time.
J S Babli said by not giving the “Duggar Satellite Channel” to the Jammu Dogras means Government is demoting Dogra culture. “When people watch different content of a language in a satellite channel then, that promotes the culture and tourism of that place,” he said, adding, it is high time for the Government to do something at the earliest otherwise Dogra culture will fade away slowly and steadily.
Madan Rangilla said it is very unfortunate that our elected representatives are doing nothing for us though it becomes their utmost duty to help Dogras of Jammu in getting Duggar Satellite Channel. “By not giving satellite channel, Government is indirectly giving rise to unemployment in Jammu division as several TV and drama artists of this Dogra region are forced to do odd jobs to earn their livelihood,” Rangilla said and requested the Government to fulfill their demand of “Duggar Satellite Channel”.
Other known personalities that participated in the protest were Sandesh Vir, Dr Rajinder Thappa, Suresh Bangotra, Baldev Raj Nargotra, Bharti, Janak Khajuria, Naresh Kesar, Vagheesh Sharma and Altaf Shah.
