SAMBA, June 25: Up in arms against hours long power cuts, the workers of Dogra Front & Shiv Sena, under the leadership of Ashok Gupta along with Ramesh Gupta, took out a protest rally at main Samba Bazar.
The protesting workers carried table fans and empty buckets to highlight the plights of common people, who are without electricity as well as water supply.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Gupta said that summer was at its peak and the people have been suffering due to scheduled as well as un-scheduled power cuts. He pointed out Jammu pays a revenue of Rs 2050 crores and Kashmir pays an annual revenue of Rs 1400 crores only but still gets more power than Jammu. When Jammu division is paying a higher share of revenue than why it is getting less power?” he asked.
Ashok Gupta explained that due to low power supply, water supply was also affected adversely. He said that Rs 400 crores have been allotted for the Samba region as per the Jal Jeevan Mission but still most of the villages do not have the water connections at each home.
“The situation is very bad due to unscheduled power cuts and non-availability of water, We request personal intervention of the Lt Governor to provide relief to the public,” he demanded.
Ashok Gupta also suggested that the Government should start investing in the solar power projects as Jammu receives ample amount of sunlight which is carbon free and at a very low cost electricity can be generated by the Government.
The party people who participated in the protest, included Abhishek, Sancheet, Sushil, Amit, Rajkumar, Ram, Akshay, Anil, Satpal, Sandhya and others.
