JAMMU, June 27: Dogra Front and Shiv Sena led by Ashok Gupta took out a procession from Jewel Chowk to B C road against the 10 hour long power cut in Jammu city and 16 hour long power cut in rural belt due to which people have been put to grave hardships.
The protestors with fans and lamps in their hands said when the people are paying the charges for the electricity why they are facing curtailments of long duration.
Ashok Gupta said that 1,570 transformers were damaged and PDD is facing shortage of funds as Government is not allocating funds to the Department due to which damaged transformers are not repaired. He said Rs 5.30 crore is the balance amount of the transformers towards the vendors by the PDD and they have stopped the repairing of transformers.
He said people especially infirm, old and infants have been made to suffer due to increasing power cut in this scorching Summer heat.
Meanwhile, Pamposh Colony Janipur, Sector 3 has been plunged into darkness for last 24 hours after the local transformer developed a snag. The people said that despite the repeated pleas the PDD authorities have failed to replace the transfer by a new one to restore power supply in the area.
The residents also protested against the callousness of the PDD authorities and warned to come to streets if the transformer was not restored by tomorrow morning.
