JAMMU, May 30: The workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena under the leadership of its president, Ashok Gupta held a massive protest rally here, today against the erratic water supply and power cuts in such a hot and scorching heat.
The party workers were carrying empty clay pots and buckets signifying the shortage of water and electricity.
The party president stated that power cuts of six hours in Jammu city and 10 hours in the rural areas are making the people to suffer when the Summer season has just initiated.
He said in these days, when the temperature is soaring only electricity and drinking water can provide some relief from scorching heat but unfortunately both these commodities have gone out of the reach of a common citizen.
The industrialists also expressed grave concern over the alleged failure of the administration to provide electricity to the industrial estates and said the unit holders are planning to go for single shift work which might lead to retrenchment of the staff.
“Over the past 10 days, we have faced the worst-ever electricity and water crisis contrary to the repeated assurances by the administration, People are approaching us and are contemplating to stop paying their bills,” Gupta said.
Suggesting the administration to go for purchase of power like the Governments in the past to overcome the crisis, the party president said the silence of the administration over the crisis was beyond the tolerance of the people who were reeling under power crisis.
The Jal Shakti Department should install generators at the pumping station like the way it has been done in Kashmir so that the water supply is not affected.
The party activists who participated in the protest were Abhishek, Bantu, Vikky, Kalu, Prem, Naresh, Shashi, Vinay, Vikas, Rajesh, Papu and others.
