JAMMU, Nov 23: Dogra Group of Colleges hosted Dr Rajendra Singh, renowned environmentalist and water conservationist, who is also known as Waterman of India.
He was invited as a guest speaker in Dogra Group of Colleges to enlighten the students, academicians and professionals of all the three Colleges i.e Dogra Law College, Dogra Degree College and Dogra College of Education regarding the river rejuvenation and water conservation. On the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between Dogra Group of Colleges and Tarun Bharat Sangh.
Th Gulchain Singh Charak, former Minister and Chairman Dogra Educational Trust; Dr Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary Dogra Educational Trust; Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Member Trustee Dogra Educational Trust; Professor Avdhesh Pratap, Principal Dogra Law College; Dr Bela Thakur, Principal Dogra Degree College; Dr Vikesh Kumar Sharma, Principal Dogra College of Education; Anita Bhatia, Principal Rich Harvest School were present on this special occasion.
In his lecture, Dr Rajendra Singh said that our traditional Indian way of living had the inbuilt system where the community used to ensure effective management of water. But as the modern era of development began, people started concentrating primarily on extraction of resources without considering the rejuvenation or replenishment of the same thus leading to the generation of problems, like flood, drought etc, he added.
He explained that water crisis is a global problem, but the solution is local. “India is the only country in the entire world which has the inherent culture of respecting the water and following the principle of retreat, reuse and recycle water from ages,” he said.
Th Gulchain Singh Charak, former Minister and Chairman, Dogra Educational Trust, a philanthropist, a social worker and a teacher, presided over the programme. He highlighted the importance of such Lectures for students.
He further said that, with the signing of MoU between Dogra Group of Colleges and NGO “Tarun Bharat Sangh. The MoU would facilitate a comprehensive partnership in the water literacy mission and problematic areas with joint efforts towards the conservation of water in Jammu and Kashmir.
