JAMMU, Sept 7: Senior Citizens Support Service Club, Chowadi, had an interactive session with the eminent personalities of Dogri literature and the officials of Nami Dogri Sanstha on the lack of promotion of Dogra culture and Dogri language at the official levels.
The background was laid by Dr K L Gupta, Chairman of the Club and former Principal GMC Jammu. He said that a language is supposed to be the biggest unifying factor in a society, but promotion of Dogri, on ground, is not seeing any day of light.
Ashok Gupta, President of the Club and former Drug Controller J&K, invited the Dogri-loving personalities and officials of Nami Dogri Sanstha to join hands in promoting Dogri language as well the Dogra culture by joining hands with each other.
Maj Gen S K Sharma, General Secretary of the Club, said that the National Education Policy NEP-2020 clearly lays stress that the medium of instruction in classes 1 to 5 should be in mother tongue but the SCERT JK Calendar for the year 2022-23 lists only 5 major subjects like English, Hindi/Urdu, Math, Science and Social Science. Dogri is not listed anywhere with the result, it is not being taught in the schools, he added.
Advocate Harish Kaila, President of Nami Dogri Sanstha, and other members of the Sanstha like S K Sharma, former Income tax Commissioner; Dr Chanchal Sharma, Asst Editor Cultural Academy; Yash Pal Yash; Inder Jeet Kesar, Sahitya Academy awardee and Capt Lalit Sharma also showed concern on this issue.
They brought out that at their level, they were arranging Kavi Goshti, Mushairaihs etc in Dogri and also honouring the persons who have contributed to the Dogra culture.
The interactive session decided that Nami Dogri Sanstha will organize a Kavi Sammelan at Senior Citizen Support Service Club at their premises at Chowadi in the near future. They also agreed to pursue this matter with SCERT JK and Board of School Education, Jammu.
