Dogri poetry that charms

O.P Sharma

Cheten Di Bushkadi, a collection of Dogri poetry, the third book by noted writer Shambhu Ram Pyasa, is a welcome addition in the Dogri literature.  His other two books are: Trip -Trip Athru  (2002)  containing 13 short stories while the other entitled “Tanda Rishte Diyan” with 17 short stories (2009),  have created a niche in the  Dogri readership. Now Pyasa has tried his pen to write poetry in his mother tongue in this book.

It is noteworthy that this book under review was released by the Minister for Forest Ch Lal Singh at an impressive function held on the Dogri Manyata Diwas. The Nami Dogri Sanstha president, Dr Harish Kaila and other literary luminaries attended the book release function. It may be pointed out that this publication is making a mark in the literary circle.

Apt Attitude

Pyasa’s standing in both the prose and poetry genres in Dogri is well known now. Hailing from Bishnah, his language is simple, chaste and charming with his own style and unique idiom.  The ideas flow smoothly and swiftly like in a placid river and main thrust is on the readers. They are efficiently and effectively communicating the main theme by the author.

Interesting Product

This 124-page book contains 67 Dogri poetic compositions on variety of subjects which are given analytical treatment. The author has dwelt deep on human sentiments, probed nature’s unlimited characteristics and charms. He has tried his pen to write in gazals, geets    and other verses in Dogri. His poetry appeals. Pyasa has got much control over his ideas, command on the language and fine art of expression. The very title of this book:  “Chetey Di Bushkadi”, is at once, typical and attractive.

This Dogri book has been well printed and produced with quality poetry which will certainly win the admiration of the readers.  Well done Mr. Pyasa so far but the “thirst” of vast Dogri readership is still not fully quenched and so go on with your literary pursuits.
