Dogri Recognition Day celebrated with fervor

JAMMU, Dec 22: The Dogri Recognition Day was celebrated today with great fervor and enthusiasm by various educational, social and cultural organizations in Jammu.
To mark the occasion, a cultural event was organized by the School of Languages and Literature (SoLL) at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). Dr Isha Malhotra, Head, School of Languages and Literature, SMVDU, emphasized on the importance of the Dogri language, and how youngsters are getting interested in the Dogri popular literature through social media. The chief guest Nagendra Singh Jamwal (Registrar, SMVDU) enumerated upon the significance of such cultural events that help in the promotion and preservation of the Dogri language. The students of B A and M A English lit up the stage with their phenomenal dance, singing and poetry performances in Dogri.
To celebrate the “Dogri Recognition Day”, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) performed Dogri musical play “Khand Mithe Log Dogre” in collaboration with Sangam Tru Art Production & National College of Computer Education Jammu at Rehearsal Hall, Durga Bhawan, Janipur (Jammu). The musical play was written and directed by Dr M L Dogra, renowned writer and director. The programe commenced with songs “Sara Duggar Desh Mahan”, “Khand Mithe Log Dogre”, “Desh Sada Dogra Te Mithi Ae Dogri Juban”, “Boliyan De Kande Laga Jobne Da Mela”, etc.
The Day was celebrated with fervor by Dogri Sanstha Jammu in which veteran Dogri writers, artists and others working for promotion of Dogri were honoured. Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest while Prof S P Saraswat, Principal, Government College for Women Parade was the guest of honour. Those honoured on this occasion include veteran writers, Inderjeet Kesar, Krishna Prem (Sharma) and Abhishap, folk dancer and poet Khajur Singh and chairperson of Team Jammu Zorawar Singh Jamwal. Earlier, a music programme based on Dogri songs was presented by the College students.
The Dogri Recognition Day was celebrated by Dogra Sadar Sabha Jammu with great reverence and honour to the mother tongue of the region. A Dogri poetic recitation meet was organized on the occasion. JMC Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta was the chief guest and Deputy Mayor Poornima Sharma was the guest of honour. Proceedings were chaired by Gulchain Singh Charak, president of the Sabha. Prominent Dogri poets who recited their poems include Sarvashri Sham Sajan, Puran Chand Sharma, Randhir Singh Rajpuria, Vijaya Thakur, Kewal Krishan Kewal, Suhail Begana, Bishan Singh Dardi, Gian Singh, Sunita Bhadwal, Sushma Rani and Mulkh Raj Bhamagi.
