JAMMU, Oct 23: Dogri Sanstha Jammu today felicitated Padma Vibhushan Dr Karan Singh in a special award function, organized at Kunwar Viyogi Auditorium, Dogri Sanstha, Dogri Bhawan, Karan Nagar, Jammu.
Dr Karan Singh was presented a citation-cum-memento. While speaking on the occasion, he appreciated Dogri Sanstha for continuous literary activities and promoting mother tongue Dogri. He said that we should promote it in our homes also because parents are not prepared to talk to their children in Dogri which is a serious concern for survival of our sweet language.
“Mothers should take a lead and boost mother tongue,” he said, adding that we should feel as proud Dogras and try our level best to preserve and promote our language and traditions because these will account for our existence. He said that in addition to organizational contribution there should be individual efforts also since it’s a common cause of our existence and sooner we realize it, better it will be.
On the demand of audience, Dr Karan Singh also enamored them by singing one of his new Bhajan.
On this occasion, five publications of Dogri Sanstha were released by Dr Karan Singh. Some volunteers of Dogri Sanstha were also presented certificates and a rare collection of Dogri Sanstha Publications and Dogri books of celebrated authors were also exhibited on this occasion.
The program started with Prof Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha Jammu welcoming esteemed guest. He said that Dr Karan Singh, a multifaceted personality, has a special bonding with Dogri Sanstha and showering his blessings he had donated this piece of land to Dogri Sanstha so that Sanstha should have its own space and a comfort zone thus preserving and promoting mother tongue Dogri and cultural traditions of Duggar region.
Thereafter a Bhajan Sandhya was organized in which Dogri Bhajans written by Dr Karan Singh were given voices by internationally acclaimed singer Seema Anil Sehgal and well known singers of soil Kusha Sharma and Chinmaya Sharma. Parshotam Kumar and others accompanied on instruments.
The citation on Dr Karan Singh was read by famous broadcaster and Dogri poetess Promila Manhas and the program was conducted by well-known theatre activist Raj Kumar Behrupia. The dais was shared by Inderjeet Kesar and Prof Veena Gupta, vice presidents of Dogri Sanstha also.
The function concluded with vote of thanks presented by Rajeshwar Singh ‘Raju’, General Secretary Dogri Sanstha.
