JAMMU, Dec 4: Dogri Sanstha Jammu in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Jammu, organized a special program in the memory of celebrated Dogri poet and Sahitya Akademi Awardee Late Gianeshwar Sharma in a simple but an impressive function at K L Saigal Hall, Writers’ Club Abhinav Theatre Jammu.
Bharat Singh Manhas, Secretary JKAACL, was the chief guest while SSP Shailender Singh, an eminent Dogri novelist and Sahitya Akademi Awardee, was special guest whereas Prof Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha Jammu, presided over the function.
During the function, a collection of Dogri songs, entitled “GEETEN DI ROHL” written by Gianeshwar, was released. Prof Veena Gupta presented a detailed paper on the book.
The book release function was followed by presentation of musical evening wherein six songs written by late poet Gianeshwar were presented by his daughters Kusha Sharma, Chinmya Sharma and Roshi Samnotra, Vanshika Jaral, Vivek Mohan, Ram Lal & Rakesh Chowhan. They were accompanied on flute by Rakesh Kumar, Sinth by Sunil, harmonium by Brij Mohan, tabla by Amit Anand and on dholak by Rajeev Kumar. These songs were composed by Brij Mohan.
While speaking on the occasion, Bharat Singh said that JKAACL has always welcomed the creative initiatives while Shailender Singh, recalled his association with the poet and said that Gianeshwar was undoubtedly a celebrated poet having carved a niche in literary arena with colossal contributions thus enriching Dogri literature.
Prof Lalit Magotra also recalled his long association with Gianeshwar. He said that this program has surely connected the audience with the poet with a broader canvas thus opening new dimensions to his creative pursuits in Dogri literature. He recalled that he was not only a prolific Dogri writer but a very good cricketer also having represented erstwhile State of J & K in many Ranji Trophy matches.
Raj Kumar Behrupia, a well-known theatre activist, conducted the proceedings and the program concluded with Shah Nawaz, Cultural Office JKAACL presenting vote of thanks. The special program was graced by a large number of litterateurs, literature lovers and family members of Late Gianeshwar Sharma.
