Jammu, Aug 20: A collection of Dogri short stories ‘Sukkhan’ by Shakunt Deepmala was released at an impressive function at the K.L Saigal Hall here today.
Published by Dogri Sanstha, the released book incorporates 17 short stories on a variety of social issues . Anjali Sharma , Director Jammu Doordarshan, was the chief guest on this occasion while Dr Lalit Magotra, noted writer, intellectual and convener, Sahitya Akademi’s Advisory Board for Dogri, presided over the function. Dr. A.S. Aman Additional secretary JKAACL was present as special guest.
In his welcome address, Chhatrapal, president of Dogri Sanstha said that the stories of Deepmala delicately paints the women sensibilities in simple but impressive style to unveil many social dogmas. Duggar and life style of its people is strikingly reflected in her stories in varied hues and colours, he added.
A brief review on the book was presented by Dr. Sushma Sharma of PG Department of Dogri, University of Jammu. She discussed the content and style of short stories of the released book and said that Deepmala’s portrayal of characters and treatment of subject is outstanding .
While congratulating Deepmala for her first collection in Dogri, Anjali Sharma observed that women writers are gifted with special faculty to deal with emotive issues confronting womenfolk in male dominated society. . Every new book in Dogri stands for a firm stride towards the enrichment of literature making society more sensitive to injustice, violence and disparity, she said and added that the released book will go a long in enriching Dogri short story.
In his presidential address, Dr Lalit Magotra said that Dogri Sanstha had credit of publishing many short story collections and the present collection is a valuable addition to the creative literature in Dogri.
Shakunt Deepmala presented a story ‘Bomb” from her book which was appreciated by the audience. The literary function was conducted by Dr Nirmal Vinod, was attended by leading writers, poets and members of the civil society.
