JAMMU, Oct 4: Dogri Sanstha, Jammu and Team Jammu today jointly urged the Government to start teaching Dogri language at primary level of education.
A joint meeting of Members of Dogri Sanstha Jammu and Team Jammu was held here today, during which the participants highlighted the urgent need for teaching Dogri language at primary level of school education.
While addressing the meeting, Professor Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha Jammu, said that Dogri language should have been taught at the primary level, at least since 2006 , when the Education Department of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir issued an order to this effect, as a State policy. But this order was never followed in true letter and spirit. However the recent turn of events, which has resulted in Dogri being accorded the status of official language of Union Territory of J&K, has made it imperative to teach Dogri right from the very basic level of Education to groom manpower to handle the challenges before this language. This means motivating and training primary level teachers for this task, creating infrastructure for training and making available books etc. The Government must exhibit its earnestness in achieving this goal.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Chairman Team Jammu, further elaborating on the issue, said that whereas creating of sufficient posts of Dogri teachers at Higher Secondary Level, will ensure the smooth flow of students with Dogri Subject from School to College level the teaching of Dogri at primary and middle level will create firm foundation for this task.
It was emphasized in the meeting that although the creation of posts of Dogri teachers at Higher Secondary level, teaching of Dogri at Primary level and setting up of Post Graduate Departments of Dogri in Central University of Jammu and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, are all of equal significance but teaching of Dogri at the Primary level is of fundamental importance. Dogri when taught at Primary level, will encourage the young children to love their mother tongue and also converse in it.
During the meeting, the members of both the organizations urged upon the Government to initiate process of creation of maximum number of posts of Dogri teachers at Higher Secondary level of School Education. They pointed out that there are about 250 Higher Secondary Schools in Dogra region, whereas, there are, at present, only 20 posts of Dogri teachers in the said schools. So, there is an urgent need to change this dismal situation.
Both Prof Lalit Magotra and Zorawar Singh Jamwal urged upon the Government to take urgent steps for teaching Dogri at all levels of education, otherwise the recent momentous decision of the Parliament to make Dogri the official language will only remain on paper and will not serve any purpose.
