Doklam standoff: Mulayam supports PM Modi

LUCKNOW, Aug 26: Samajwadi party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav has pledged his support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the ongoing standoff with China at the Doklam border in Bhutan.

”If a conflict arise with China, I will support the NDA Government at the Centre”, Mr Yadav said today while addressing a meeting organised to celebrate birthday of a senior party leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Bhagwati Singh, who turned 85.

Mr Yadav said he has been cautioning the Centre from the last two decades that the China was an unpredictable neighbour and can never be trust. ”India faces greater threat from China not from Pakistan,” Mr Yadav claimed.

SP patriarch said China has an evil eye on Sikkim and Bhutan and conspiring to occupy vast territory on north-eastern border. ”The Peoples Liberation Army of China is prepared for a war with India over Doklam issue”, Mr Yadav asserted. Mr Yadav said that he had raised the issue in the last monsoon session of the Parliament and despite that Centre neither apprised him nor the Lok Sabha about the preparedness of security forces to counter the Chinese Army.

”It’s in the strategic interest and security of the north-east region of India to prevent China from constructing all-whether road to Doklam, Mr Yadav asserted. Commenting about the present status of the SP party, Mr Yadav said that he had asked the party cadres to work for strengthening the party.

Admiring his colleague Bhagwati Singh, the SP patriarch said ” he was in public life for six decades and got elected to State Assembly and Rajya Sabha, yet  he didn’t had accommodation in Lucknow.

He claimed that Bhagwati Singh was a ‘Samajwadi Sant’ and the rank and file of the party should draw inspiration from his conduct in public life. Shivpal Yadav, the warring uncle of the Samajwadi party president Akhilesh Yadav, also addressed the meeting. Akhilesh Yadav, however, stayed away from the meeting and greeted Bhagwati Singh thorough social media.

Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav will visit Patna tomorrow to participate in the anti-BJP rally organised by the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. On August 30, Akhilesh Yadav will visit Azamgarh, the Lok Sabha constituency of his father Mulayam Singh Yadav. There he will unveil the statue of martyr Ram Samujh Yadav and later address a public meeting. (UNI)
