Sir,
Domestic violence is increasing day by day in our State and the present laws seem insufficient to counter this civil practice. Women are the worst sufferers in this case. According to studies, more than 40 percent women in our State are suffering from domestic violence.
I wonder how the courts can deliver justice when 2.5 crores cases are already pending. The situation in our rural areas is worsening day by day because women hesitate to file complaints to the concerned authorities there due to ignorance and other social constraint. Reasons may be several but dependance and the social relationship seem to be the dominating ones. Despite several laws, (like the J&K protection of women from domestic violence Act, 2010), we see increasing number of cases day by day. Now the time has come when the victim has to rise above fear and make complaint against the accused in the police or approach the court to get some legal remedy (like protection order etc.) Family and friends can do a lot.
At last, it is the need of the hour, to speak publicly against domestic violence and on the other hand, it is an obligation upon the Govt to work out more practical options to do away with this evil practice.
Yours etc…
