WASHINGTON, Aug 4: Condemning the Texas shooting in which 20 people were killed and 26 others injured on Saturday, US President Donald Trump called it an act of ‘cowardice’. He also informed that he is in contact with local authorities and has pledged support of the Federal Government.
Mr Trump took to twitter to express his anger.
“Terrible shootings in El Paso, Texas. Reports are very bad, many killed. Working with State and Local authorities, and Law Enforcement. Spoke to Governor to pledge total support of Federal Government. God be with you all!” Mr Trump wrote on Twitter.
“Today’s shooting in El Paso, Texas, was not only tragic, it was an act of cowardice. I know that I stand with everyone in this Country to condemn today’s hateful act. There are no reasons or excuses that will ever justify killing innocent people,” Mr trump said in another tweet.
Governor Greg Abbott termed the shooting in the Texas border city as ‘one of the most deadly days in the history of Texas’.
The suspect, who was identified as as Patrick Crusius from Allen Texas, a suburb of Dallas more than 650 miles away, now in custody, according to Texas Police Chief Greg Allen.
According to local media reports, the FBI has opened a domestic terror investigation into the mass shooting.
