Donate blood for Thalassemic children: JKTWS

JAMMU, Dec 14: J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society (JKTWS) has appealed to the general public to come forward for voluntary donation of blood at SMGS Hospital Blood Bank in favour of large number of Thalassemic children.
A handout stated that there are approximately 300 Thalassemic children registered with JKTWS and they are facing acute shortage of blood from the blood bank SMGS Hospital despite best efforts of the blood bank authorities at SMGS and GMCH Hospitals in Jammu.
Thalassemia is a blood transfusion dependent disease whose patients need regular safe blood transfusion at least once, twice or even more times in a month with iron chelation therapy to survive.
For the convenience and safety of blood donors and blood bank, JKTWS has recommended that any desirous person who wants to donate blood may contact SMGS Hospital from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at 2547638, 2547635 and 2578477; Blood Bank Ext number is 296.
