JAMMU, Nov 23: Former minister and senior NC leader, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra has alleged that BJP Government at the Centre and the State has created atmosphere of mistrust among common people under the garb of Back to Village Programme making mockery and weakening grass root level democracy.
In a press statement here, Sadhotra said Government has given big hype to Back to Village Programme and even got it mentioned by the Prime Minister in “ MANN KI BAAT” programme but on the ground, it is a flop Show. When Back to Village Programme started in June 2019 people of Jammu and Kashmir especially Sarpanchs and Panchs have raised high hopes that Government has come to their door steps and pace of development shall be very fast but to their utter surprise this programme proved failure and people are very much disappointed as the issues raised during this programme remained unattended and people are yet to see light of the day.
Now, Government is going to start Back to Village Programme Phase- 2. Sarpanchs, Panchs and common people are asking Government to tell them what happened to the problems brought to Government notice in June during Phase 1, added Sadhotra.
National Conference leader further said that huge liability under of MGNREGA is pending. Payment to labourers and mates have not been made even in many cases payment of material is also liability. Every time future plans are formulated and nothing is seen on the ground. There is no effective Panchayat Raj it is yet to take off on the ground. Only hype is being given to Back to Village Programme to befool people as their expectations are being raised to highest pitch but on ground it is total failure. It has created sense of distress and people are feeling duped. It may lead to alienation among common people, he asserted.
Sadhotra asked the Government not to create trust deficit, make mockery and weaken grass root democracy. Ist fulfill promises made during June 2019 and then start Phase –II, he suggested.
