JAMMU, Oct 13: Department of Post (DoP) today inaugurated a modern and new-look Post Office at Channi Himmat.
The new look Post Office was inaugurated by John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General, J&K, in presence of local populace.
Speaking on the occasion, John Samuel said that as a part of J&K Post Office Transformation Plan, Post Offices in J&K are being upgraded to make them customer friendly and relevant to meet the needs of the people.
He said that Channi Himmat Post Office will function as a computerised Post Office and will offer mail services, speed post, registered post, Post Office savings bank, Post shopee facilities.
In Jammu city, around 30 post offices have been earmarked for modernisation and this is the sixth Post Office, Samuel said. He announced that remaining Post Offices would be modernized and dedicated to the people in coming months.
As a new initiative, more than 1.15 lakh BPL accounts have been opened during the last year. John Samuel announced that the Department of Posts is aiming at achieving ‘financial inclusion’ by encouraging every household to have a Savings Account in the Post Office.
John Samuel announced that the Department had already acquired 10 Kanals of land in Channi Himmat for construction of Post Office building in near future, which will cater to the postal requirements of the residents of Channi Himmat.
Among others present were, Amit Sharma, Director Finance, Jagdeep Gupta, Director, Post Services, RL Bhardwaj, DDM (PLI), JR Angural, Superintendent of Post Offices, Jammu Postal Division and other officers of the Department.
