DoP opens 109th Post Office; flags off Exclusive Mail Van

KARGIL, June 19: Department of Post (DoP) today inaugurated 109th Post Office at Cha-Lungnak, in Ladakh region. The world’s only post office with four mail runners will carry mails covering a distance of 60 Km every day.
The post office was inaugurated by Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan along with Chief Postmaster General, John Samuel.
On the occasion, CEC and Chief Postmaster General also flagged off Exclusive Mail Van for Kargil-Leh-Kargil.
Speaking on the occasion, John Samuel, said that Post India is recruiting 264 employees in J&K, including 14 people from Ladakh Region. He added that they are introducing Exclusive Mail van between Kargil-Srinagar soon.
Postal Service will start some new services in Ladakh region, including providing newspaper, Internet cafe, photostat, fax, etc, he said, adding, that India Post is going to introduce a Cargo Flight between Delhi and Leh for providing better service to the people living in this region.
He requested CEC and Executive Councilors to encourage people for opening a saving bank account in post office so that the facilities and services of post office will reach to every individual.
CEC requested Samuel to fill up all vacant posts in post office all over Kargil so that the burden on the existing employees could be reduced.
Stressing on the need and importance of letter writing, which is a skill and link for bonding relationships, CEC requested the youths to focus on this skill.
Replying to a request from Executive Councilor, Haji Amir Kamran, John Samuel, said that he would consider for opening a post office in Chiktan.
Among others present were Executive Councilor Haji Ghulam Amir Kamran, Ghulam Rasool Nagvi and Punchok Tashi, MLA Zanskar Feroz Ahmad Khan, Councilor Syed Abass and Nurboo, officers of postal services, Transmission Executive AIR Kargil Javed Sofi, students and people.
