DoPK observe Vitasta Divas, pledge to continue struggle for homeland

JAMMU, Sept 8: Daughters of Panun Kashmir (DoPK) organised the traditional Vitasta Divas on the banks of Rajinder Canal today.
For the last many millennia Kashmiri Pandits worship river Vitasta as an incarnation of Mata Parvati and as such the Daughters of Panun Kashmir, the Women wing of PK, has been observing this day for the last 32 years on the Ranbir Canal which is a tributary of River Chanderbhaga (Chenab).
It is on the banks of river Vitasta which runs through the Valley of Kashmir that the most evolved and more than 5000 years old civilization of Kashmir flourished. As such the Vitasta Diwas has great socio cultural significance for the Kashmiri Hindus.
The programme was organised by Vimla Chrungoo, secretary, DoPK and its senior members Sunita Raina, Santosh Sharma and Vijay Sapru and other members of Panun Kashmir (PK).
Vimla Chrungoo presented the welcome address. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Upinder Koul, general secretary PK. An Aarti was sung in praise of Mata Vitasta with flower petals followed by the lighting of earthen lamps that were later immersed in the Ranbir canal by the members of DoPK and also the PK leaders present on the occasion.
Virender Raina, president PK while speaking on the occasion narrated the cultural and historical significance of the day. He said that the PM package employees face grave threat to their lives in Kashmir and it is the duty of the Government to create suitable conditions and adjust them outside Kashmir till normalcy returns.
Senior. leader Satish Kissu said that the genocide of KPs need to be addressed by the Government.
Another KP leader Sundri Lal Koul lauded the effort of the DoPK in observing the day without fail for the last 31years and keeping the tradition of thousands of years old alive.
Kashmiri Lal Bhat spoke about the religio-cultural significance of river Vitasta. He informed the audience as to how the unique Sharda culture evolved on the banks of Mata Vitasta.
Vimla Chrungoo in her presentation said that the DoPK is organising the women of the community to strengthen the social bonding and today we pray Mata Vitasta with a promise that we shall throng her banks once again with the establishment of a separate Homeland in Kashmir.
Mohan Lal Raina (Comrade) also spoke on the occasion.
The convener PK youth, Sameer Bhat administered the oath to the audience to keep the struggle of Homeland alive and vibrant.
