MENDHAR, Oct 31: Dozens of land mines continued to explode since last evening as the forest fire is spreading along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mankote and Mendhar sector of Poonch district.
Official sources said that fire which started from that side of the LoC last evening, has also spread on this side of the fence. It has covered a larger area of Patwari Gali and some area of Tain village. The Army authorities have sounded alert while Forest department staff has also cautioned the villagers living near the LoC. The fire also said to have caused a little damage to the fence and some other infrastructure.
The people are listening deafening sounds of explosions of land mines. This also created panic in the forward villages. The Army authorities on this side were fighting the fire.
Sources said that on several earlier occasions also such incidents have been reported in this particular area. This is the strategy of the Pakistani troops to facilitate infiltration of the armed militants into this side of the LoC. Taking cover of the fire and smoke, the Pak troops push infiltrators into this side. The troops have intensified vigil all along the LoC in this sector, the sources added.
