DPAP assures rail link to Rajouri-Poonch

RAJOURI, Apr 11: Former Legislator, Member of State Working Committee and Provincial vice-president of DPAP, Ashok Sharma assured construction of Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch prestigious Rail Link Project commencement at an earliest soon after getting the mandate of people and open up the border and hilly distracts for rapid socio-economic and tourism development, in a meeting held here today.
Sharma said that the Rail Road to Poonch was declared as a National Project a decade back but it was latter derailed. Railway Line should be laid in such a manner that it connects holy shrines of Shiv Khori, Mangla Mata, Shahdra Sharif, Budha Amarnathji, Sain Mera Ali, Sain Allah Baksh and Nangali Sahib, besides the coal reserves, limestone and cocoon rich belts of Kalakote, Sunderbani and Mandi and Sulphur water springs of Tatapani.
He said that alignment of the rail link should also cover Sunderbani and Nowshera towns and shrines of Shri Mangla Mata and Raghunath Prachin Mandir Channiparat and historical spot of Chingus on Mughal Road. He further said that besides promoting pilgrim, adventure and leisure tourism in the area, it would largely help in setting up cement plants of Metka-Soulki, Mandi-Poonch, Silk Factory at Sunderbani and re-commissioning of Thermal Power House Kalakote to suffice the electricity construction requirements of the people of Rajouri and Poonch.
The former Legislator added that rail link would also facilitate setting up of industries, establishment of small and micro hydro power projects and generation of employment avenues for local youth. The cross LoC trade would also get a tremendous boost by bringing Poonch and Rajouri on the railway map of the country, he maintained.
Senior social and political face of Pir Panjal, Peer Akhter Ali Shah, among political veterans of Rajouri, Jogesh Kumar and Arun Sharma joined the DPAP party. Besides other DPAP leaders, Kashmir Singh, Susheel Jamwal, Babar Malik, Bashir Ahmed, Shabir Mirza, Parmvir Sharma and Farooq Ahmed also presented their views in the meeting.
