Led by DPAP leaders, a large number of people, including men and women residing in Bakshi Nagar area assembled on main road at Bakshi Nagar to register their protest over prepaid billing system and installation of smart meters.
The protesting DPAP leaders and local inhabitants raised slogans against the LG Administration and Power Development Corporation Jammu while holding placards in their hands. They burnt old rubber tyres on the road and thus, disrupted the traffic on the ever busy road. The protesters were also raising slogans against BJP leaders.
“The PDD is forcing people to pay electricity bills through prepaid system,” said a local DPAP leader while addressing media persons during the protest demonstration. He said the poor people who earned mere Rs 200 to Rs 300 per day are being issued inflated bills. He alleged that the LG Government is forcing all new rules on Jammuites while there are no such rules in Kashmir.
He said that the Government of Jammu and Kashmir is forcing people to pay prepaid bills. “DPAP will not allow the LG dispensation to play with poor by tormenting them on the name of pre-paid electricity system portal,” he said, adding, no party including BJP is opposing it but DPAP has decided to oppose it strongly and are continuously protesting against it on the streets.
“We won’t tolerate this at any cost and would intensify the movement against it in the days to come,” the protesting people said.
