JAMMU, Aug 10: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) today organized a protest in Sainik Colony area of Jammu to vehemently oppose smart metering and prepaid system for electricity.
Continuing their resentment against the smart metering and prepaid system for electricity across Jammu city, the members of DPAP led by Gourav Chopra (district president, Jammu) protested in Sainik Colony area. Holding placards in their hands, the DPAP members raised slogans against present LG Administration in Jammu and Kashmir as well as Power Development Department. They asked Government to roll back the decision as the people are being issued hefty power bills.
Speaking on the occasion, Gourav Chopra said that DPAP is against the decision of smart metering and prepaid system of electricity which is the reason that the Party leaders are staging protest all over the Union Territory. He alleged that the LG Government is forcing all new rules like property tax and prepaid electricity system on Jammuites while there are no such rules in Kashmir. “We won’t tolerate this at any cost and would intensify the movement against it in the days to come,” he added.
Chopra said that the Government of Jammu and Kashmir is forcing people to pay prepaid bills. “DPAP will not allow the LG dispensation to play with poor by tormenting them on the name of pre-paid electricity system portal,” he said, adding, no party is opposing it but DPAP has decided to oppose it strongly and are continuously protesting against it on the streets.
