JAMMU, Feb 19: The Displaced Persons (DPs) from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir today took out a protest rally and later staged strong demonstration near Press Club here today.
A large number of Displaced Persons including women activists under the banner of PoJK DPs’ Front-1947, 65 & 71 and Non Camp assembled at Canal Head, near Women Cell and then started protest march towards Press Club. They held strong demonstration in support of their long pending demands. Capt (Retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib, president of the organization, was leading the protest.
The Displaced Persons shouted slogans against Government alleging that it has failed to mitigate the sufferings of thousands of displaced families struggling for their rights for the last over six decades. They demanded their one time comprehensive settlement. The protesters were carrying banners and placards in hands depicting their demands.
Mr Chib in his address appealed all the bodies of DPs to get united for further course of action. He alleged that NC-Congress Coalition Government has only befooled them by forwarding package to Delhi. It was just game plan to grab the vote bank of refugees. Mr Chib said that now BJP was also changing colours. He asked the DPs to remain united on the issue.
He also demanded that the left out DP families be registered without any delay, ownership rights to the DPs of 1947, 65 and 71 be given to all the DPs residing in Kathua, Samba, Jammu and other parts of the region. Mr Chib also sought reservation for the DP youth in professional and other colleges and institutes besides universities and in Govt jobs. The DPs further demanded allotment of land to those whose deficiency has not been removed.
The Executive Committee of the Front led by Mr Chib has repeatedly requested the PRO Jammu for commencing the process of the implementation of the left out components of the package without any more delay. They pointed out that protest dharnas would continue till the PRO Jammu makes payment against the relief package sanctioned by the Govt of India.
