JAMMU, Feb 3: The displaced persons from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir today held protest against the decision of the Government to start train service between Jammu-R S Pura-Suchetgarh.
The DPs under the banner of MJR 47, Movement for Justice for Refugees of 1947 from POJK assembled near Press Club here today and held protest. They strongly opposed the decision.
JS Sudan, convenor of the organisation said that those who survived during 1947 are still living without proper relief and rehabilitation for past seven decades. They are still living in the same refugee camps, where they were provided temporary shelter way back in 1950-51.
It is shocking for them after Advisor to Lt Governor the other day announced to revive the pre-partition Rail line from Bikram Chowk to RSPura/ Suchatgarh for mini-train as heritage for tourism purpose. Irony is that the Advisor may not have been apprised of the ground facts that DPs of 1947 were made to settle on this abandoned track where DPs in 3rd & 4th generation continue to live since 1950.
After over more than seven decades DPs have build pacca houses on the plots they were made to live in tents and thatched huts. In case the plan is executed on the same line as announced, many DPs will again become refugees in their own state. Such large displacement will certainly go against their interests. This is the reason that protests have already started every where and may lead to an unpleasant situation.
They request the Govt to reconsider the plan and give it a route without any displacement so that DPs who are awaiting settlement for last 74years may not become refugees again.
