JAMMU, Aug 24: BJP spokesperson and chairperson of Waqf Development Committee of the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs Dr Darakhshan Andrabi today had a detailed meeting with Union Minister of Home Affairs Nityanand Rai at his office in New Delhi.
Dr Andrabi discussed a wide range of issues with the Union Minister including law & order situation in Jammu & Kashmir and the steps taken by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs for the development & empowerment of minorities in the country. Dr Andrabi suggested my amendments needed in the Central Waqf Act and requested the Home Ministry to take up the Act for review with the Union Law Ministry so that it may be made more effective and potent enough to deal with the issue of misuse, encroachments and grabbing of the Waqf assets throughout the country.
She also suggested some necessary features for the constitution of J&K Waqf Act which can ensure healthy management of the ailing Waqf management system in J&K. Dr Darakhshan submitted half a dozen plans for the education sector in Jammu & Kashmir ranging from University level to the Primary level for implementation in the coming days. Proposal of Water-bodies management in J&K was also discussed at length during the meeting. It is pertinent to mention here that National Green Tribunal had issued a notice to J&K Government recently for not restoring the glory of water-bodies in Union Territory.
Dr Andrabi submitted her proposal to the Minister regarding incentives for the industrial sector of J&K. She also discussed the return of Kashmiri Pandit migrants to Kashmir and submitted her suggestions for a holistic approach to execute the plan. The Union Minister assured Dr Andrabi that her proposals will be studied seriously and necessary action will be taken.
