SRINAGAR, Oct 12: A 3-day workshop titled ‘Valley Urocon 2/2024’, organized by the Department of Urology and Renal Transplant Centre, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, today highlighted its leadership in advancing urological care and education in the region.
The Secretary of Health and Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Principal of GMC, Prof. Dr. Iffat Hassan; Administrator of Associated Hospitals, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak; Head of the Urology Department, Dr. Syed Sajjad Nazir; Director of Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Jahangeer Bakshi, along with delegates from various parts of the country, faculty members, and senior officials of GMC, were also present at the inaugural ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Abid praised GMC Srinagar and its Urology Department for organizing ‘UROCON 2/2024’, a conference of international standards.
He encouraged participants to adopt the latest technology and continuously upgrade their skills, while emphasizing the importance of a more patient-centric approach.
Dr. Abid also called for regular organization of such programs, stating: “It provides a platform for experience exchange, interaction, and knowledge enhancement.”
In her address, Dr. Iffat Hassan commended the Department of Urology for its dedication to delivering cutting-edge technology and advanced care to patients.
Speaking with ‘Excelsior’, Dr. Amilal Bhat, a hypospadiologist, paediatric urologist, and educator of international repute, lauded GMC Srinagar’s efforts, noting the significant advancements made by its Urology Department.
“This is a great effort by GMC Srinagar. The Department is on par with any international institution. The use of advanced technology showcased during the workshop will undoubtedly benefit patients, offering them facilities of international standards,” he said.
Dr. Syed Sajjad Nazir expressed pride in the workshop’s success, noting that this was the first time that such a high volume of cases had been performed using advanced minimally invasive techniques.
He highlighted the importance of integrating advanced technology to improve patient outcomes and elevate the standard of care.
The 3-day workshop focuses on advanced minimally invasive and endo-urological techniques to address complex urological conditions.
Expert faculty from premier institutions like AIIMS, AINU, PGI, and SMS Jaipur guided the event, during which 35 challenging urological procedures were successfully performed using state-of-the-art methods.
Valley Urocon 2/2024 served as a platform for both theoretical learning and practical experience, allowing participants to deepen their understanding of the latest developments in urology.
